Proven. Easy to Install. Cost-Effective
Since 1998, contractors and engineers have
used the Load Plate Basket® assembly in saw-cut contraction joints to achieve superior
load transfer in concrete slabs. PNA's Load Plate Basket® assemblies provide a more
efficient way to deliver the durable, maintenance-free slabs your customers expect.
The Load Plate Basket® assembly helps you:
- Optimize the amount of steel in a project
- Collect retainage
- Reduce call backs
- Save labor
- Deliver serviceable slabs-on-ground
- Shorten construction schedules
Design Advantages
- Provides an increased bearing area of steel at the joints for
superior load transfer
- Limits differential deflection across joints to minimize
joint spalling
- Load Plate Basket® clips hold foam in place to allow lateral movement
to accommodate slab shrinkage and act as a de-bonding agent
- Can be located up
to within six inches of a joint intersection
Installation Advantages
- Requires fewer man hours for installation than historical
methods
- Easy to handle - can be carried and installed by one person during concrete
placement
- Allows for easy subgrade leveling at any point prior to concrete placement to prevent rutting, restraint and cracking
- Construction tolerances allow for misalignment without
causing restraint in the panels
- Fully welded assemblies, offering stable dowel support during installation
- Bundled and shipped on skids for easy shipping and handling on the jobsite
- Custom and stock baskets available through national distribution network

Dowel size and spacing for construction and saw-cut contraction joints

Source Material: ACI 360R-06, Design of Slabs-on-Ground, Tables 5.1 & 5.2;
ACI 302.IR-04, Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction, Tables 3.1
& 3.2
* Total dowel length includes allowance made for joint opening and minor errors
in positioning dowels
** Rectangular plates are typically used in saw-cut contraction joints
*** Construction tolerances required make it impractical to use diamond-shaped load
plates in saw-cut contraction joints
Note: Table values based on maximum opening of 0.20 in.(mm). Dowels must be carefully
aligned and supported during concrete operations. Misaligned dowels may lead to
cracking.
