Tapered Plate Dowels for Existing Slab Edges

For serviceable joints in concrete flatwork, industry guides have established an acceptable joint stability of .01 inch (.25 mm). The CoVex™ Series is the only solution that can help you deliver on this exacting performance criteria at existing slab edges in concrete flatwork created during flatwork expansions, slip form paving, joint repair and other full-depth saw-cut applications.

The CoVex™ Dowel System for existing slab edges is an innovation supported by published engineering and proven performance that minimizes the initial dowel looseness and additional dowel looseness under repetitive loads through engineered tolerances of the system and the specific bearing area of steel embedment on both sides of the joint. The CoVex™ installation saw is built to reliably deliver cuts for acceptance of the CoVex™ dowel to requisite exacting tolerances, safely and with ease.

The CoVex™ Dowel System Helps You:

  • Deliver durable, cost-effective concrete flatwork
  • Optimize the amount of steel in your project
  • Reduce your call backs and save labor
  • Limit your liability

The CoVex™ Series consists of the CoVex™ Dowel System (dowel and sleeve), epoxy resin, installation saw and blades.

Design Advantages

  • Minimizes joint spalling by delivering industry accepted joint stability of less than .01 inch (.25 mm) of total differential deflection between adjacent slab panels
  • Minimizes additional dowel looseness by delivering an engineered 7 inches (175 mm) of steel at the joint and 6.11 square inches (152.75 mm) of steel (given a joint opening of 1/8 inch [3 mm]) in the first inch of embedment where the bearing, shear and flexural stresses are highest
  • Reduces dowel erosion by reducing bearing stress on the concrete and erosion below the dowel

Installation Advantages

  • Reduce job-site safety issues with hand held drilling
  • Minimize job-site tripping hazards
  • Ensure positive load transfer and eliminates cracking from restraint with reliable dowel alignment
